"Make it your goal to create a marriage that feels like the safest place on earth."
- Greg Smalley
Anticipating marriage is an exciting and unique time for a couple. Whether you are pre or post engagement, preparing for marriage is more than just planning for the wedding day. The investment you make in your relationship will serve to lay a foundation for the next chapter of your lives together.
What to expect:
First and foremost, I want to create an environment that is safe and inviting. I like to spend time getting to know you as a couple, hearing what brought you together and what challenges you may have faced up to this point. In premarital therapy, I combine the foundation and principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with PREPARE ENRICH, an assessment designed to highlight strength and growth areas of a relationship. EFT serves to shed some light on the common patterns in a relationship, both where a couple may be feeling stuck or disconnected and where a couple feels strong. We work on establishing emotional safety in the relationship where both partners feel seen and supported by one another. I use this as a launching point into more specific topics that many couples are considering in this season. The PREPARE ENRICH tools help highlight topics such as finances, sex, family of origin, faith, how each partner likes to spend their time, etc. By asking questions over a range of areas, the assessment gives me a good idea about how best to spend our time together and to really tailor our work to your strengths and needs. By the time we are finished, my hope is that your connection, communication, and sense of knowing each other is deepened and strengthened for the road ahead.
It would be an honor to support you as you
prepare for the next chapter of your lives!
